Air Conditioners (AC) have become a necessity in hot and arid regions. But I still feel people don’t get how to use it. You come from an exhaustive workout or you are just feeling really hot, what do you do? Switch on the Air Conditioner and set the temperature at 16˚C (60.8˚F / 289K) or in some cases 18˚C (64.4˚F / 291K). It is a very common practice in every single part of the world. Then within the next 15-20 minutes, the same person will say, its so cold and increase the temperature.
What is the need to set the temperature at 16˚C (60.8˚F)/18˚C (64.4˚F) in the first place. There is a reason why they say 24˚C (75.2˚F) is an optimum temperature. One of the reasons is that it consumes less electricity and the other is that humans are more comfortable at 24˚C (75.2˚F). So give your Air Conditioner a break.
No doubt auto sensing technologies are already there but not everyone has that and you are not going to just sell your existing air conditioner right away. So till the time being operate it manually and try to keep the temperature at 24˚C (75.2˚F).
